Discontinued Monster flavors | Everything to know

Monster Energy drinks are some of the most popular and widely consumed energy drinks worldwide. The company has over 30 different flavors, but some have been discontinued.

The main reasons for stopping production and distribution include

  • The flavor contains too much additive
  • There’s a similar (and better) flavor
  • The flavor isn’t selling

Sometimes, Monster Energy withdraws flavors without giving a specific reason. But we think this usually happens if the flavor isn’t as popular or fast-selling as others, or it might be that the company is trying to phase out older flavors to make room for new ones.

This article is a compilation of the discontinued Monster flavors and other important information about the company and its products.

What is Monster Energy?

Monster Energy started in 2002 with its flagship product, Monster Energy Original. The company has since expanded its product line to include over 30 different flavors of energy drinks. While some of these flavors are still available, others have been discontinued.

Monster Energy has always had a unique marketing approach. The company focuses more on supporting athletes, bands, and its fans. In a nutshell, Monster cares about the things you are passionate about and aim to achieve or experience.

Little wonder they are one of the most sought-after energy drink brands.

Now, let’s look at some of their discontinued flavors.

Discontinued Monster Energy drink flavors

Ballers Blend Energy Drink

Ballers Blend is a carbonated soft drink that tastes similar to the punch you made as a youngster, with a bit of fizz for an elegant finish. This beverage was designed to help you to take your game to the next level.

This flavor was discontinued because it had a limited appeal.

The drink was a mix of Ginseng + B vitamins + l-carnitine + taurine. 5% juice.

Mad Dog Energy Drink

Mad Dog is another Monster Energy flavor removed from the company’s production list, and the reason for its discontinuation is unknown.

Its ingredients include Carbonated Water, Sugar, Glucose, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Citric Acid, Taurine, Sodium Citrate, Panax Ginseng Extract, and Potassium Sorbate.

Mad Dog, the original Punch Monster, was inspired by the streets. Clean lines, excellent punch taste, and a full load of our famous Monster energy mix made this drink stand out. However, that was not enough to keep it in the market.

Heavy Metal

Monster Heavy Metal was introduced sometime in 2012 and withdrawn a few years later. The drink had a fruity taste, something like guava and passion fruit. Like other discontinued Monster flavors, its withdrawal from the market didn’t go down well with some people.

It’s unclear why Monster Energy discontinued this flavor. We can only speculate that it didn’t sell as much as the company had hoped, or they might have found a better flavor to replace it.

The ingredients in this drink are Carbonated Water, Sugar, Glucose, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Taurine, Panax Ginseng Extract, L-Carnitine, Caffeine, Sodium Citrate, Inositol, Guarana Extract, Sorbate, and Benzoate.

Monster Assault

Monster Assault is a revolution in a can. Refreshing like a soft drink but loaded with the same energy blend makes Monster the meanest energy drink on the planet. All that was before Monster Energy switched things up and replaced this flavor.

Monster Assault fans had none of it and took to various social media to air their disapproval. Here’s a snippet from a distraught customer:

How could they do this to their best flavor? Assault fans were the most loyal customers, checking different gas stations to see who had it and clearing the shelf. They took the effort to re-designed the can but couldn’t just call it something else and keep the real assault. They’ve betrayed us. Red bull will have to do for now. I don’t even really like red bull, but ill drink it out of pure spit.

Other discontinued flavors are:

  • Ultra citron
  • Java Russian
  • Unleaded
  • Nitrous Anti-Gravity
